How Occupational Therapy Can Help

The Occupational Therapist (OT) works with children and their families to promote participation in purposeful and meaningful activities, such as playing with friends or participation in cutting activities in the classroom.

Intervention can assist children who are experiencing difficulties with:
Fine Motor Skills including:
  • Handwriting and pencil grasp
  • Scissor skills
  • Play and manipulation of smaller toys

 

Gross Motor Skills including:
  • Poor co-ordination for tasks such as jumping and sports
  • Throwing and catching balls
  • Planning and sequencing physical tasks

 

Attention and concentration including:
  • Sitting for circle time in the classroom
  • Attending to tasks or games until completed

 

Self care skills including:
  • Dressing
  • Using cutlery
  • Toileting skills
